White Island

Season: October to January
Location: 27 nautical miles north of Whakatane
Nearest Port: Whakatane
Time to get there: 3.5 hours Shortest Trip – Great for stag or birthdays, family trips, or just a fishing fix
Departure times: 7.30pm the night before the trip, travelling to White Island arriving around 11.00pm
Return: 4.30pm approx. next day.
Trip Length: Recommended 2-3 day trip, minimum 24 hours
Cost: $3600 per day for up to eight people.
Food: fully catered $60pp per day
Bait and Tackle and Rods supplied: $50pp per day
Fish Species found at White Island:

  • Yellowtail Kingfish 15 – 25kg average with occasional 30kg
  • In season Marlin – Stripies 90 – 150kg
  • Deepwater fishing – hapuku 15 – 20kg, Bass 20 – 30kg, Bluenose 15 – 20kg
  • Common Terekihi – good table fish caught in good numbers
  • Other common fish – Trevally, gemfish
  • Other gamefish – Tuna (skipjack, albacore)
Fishing Techniques: Mechanical Jigging, some popping&stickbaiting, Trawling, live and dead – baiting, deepwater fishing (time dependant)scuba diving
Recommended Tackle: Heavy for reefy structures

Three Kings: November - Mid June

Location: 50 Nautical miles north west of North Cape, NZ
Nearest Port: Mangonui, Far North ,nz
Time to get there: 18 hours
Departure times: 7.30am trawling to the shelf, fishing spots up the coast and arriving at the Kings around 9pm
Return:1 – 3pm on the last day back to Mangonui.
Trip Length: Recommended 5 – 7 Days, minimum 4 days, most popular trip is 5 days
Cost: $3600 per day for up to eight people, recommendation six.
Food: fully catered $60pp per day
Bait and Tackle and Rods supplied: $50pp per day
Fish Species found at Three Kings:

  • Yellowtail Kingfish 15 – 25kg average with 30kg fish common and the odd 40+kg fish on most trips.
  • Marlin – Stripies 90 – 200kg , Blues and Blacks 150 – 400+kg
  • Broadbill Swordfish – weather dependant 200kg up to 400+kg
  • hapuku – 20 average up to 50kg
  • Bass or Wreckfish – 20 – 40kg average up to 60 – 70kg
  • King Terekihi – good table fish caught in good numbers
  • Other common fish – Trevally, bluenose, gemfish
  • Other gamefish – Tuna (skipjack, slender, albacore and yellowfin) - Mahimahi

Nearest International airport: Christchurch
Nearest Domestic airport: Westport Time to get there: 6 – 8 hours Departure times: Riverbar, tides and weather dependant. Each trip is booked into a five day gap to allow for the best window for fishing
Trip Length: Recommended 48 hour trip, minimum 24 hours, up to 72 or 96 hours
Cost: $6000 per 24hrs for maximum six anglers.
Food: fully catered inclusive
Bait and Tackle and Rods supplied: inclusive
Fishing techniques: Mainly night fishing using chunking and dead baiting and burley

Recommended Tackle: Heavy 60kg, chair or stand up

Cost

The cost $6000 per 24hrs includes full catering for six persons, bait, burley, 130lb tackle and 130W Shimano rod and reels. Each trip is booked into a five day period to allow for the best weather window as river bars at Greymouth and Westport dicate departure and returning to port as well as westcoast weather and sea conditions.
